Dr Eef Theunissen

PhD in Psychopharmacology.

Dr. Eef Theunissen obtained her PhD in psychopharmacology in 2005 at the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Maastricht, The Netherlands, under the supervision of Prof. Ramaekers and Prof. Riedel.

Her doctoral research focused on antihistamines' sedating and stimulating effects, including their impact on driving and cognitive performance. From 2005 to 2007, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Maastricht, where she investigated the effects of high-dose cannabis on cognitive performance in occasional and daily users using Event-Related Potentials.

Since 2007, Dr. Theunissen has been an assistant professor at the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Maastricht. She has coordinated numerous studies assessing the effects of medicinal drugs and drugs of abuse on driving performance, cognition, and subjective experiences.

Additionally, she has co-supervised many PhD students within the experimental psychopharmacology unit, focusing on projects involving psychedelics and novel psychoactive substances. Recently, she completed a series of first-in-man studies with a synthetic cannabinoid found in herbal smoking mixtures such as Spice.

Dr. Theunissen is also a faculty member of the Borkenstein Alcohol Course, where she lectures on the effects of Alcohol and other drugs in On-road Driving Studies.
