T2025: Time for Change

24th International Conference on Alcohol, Drugs and Traffic Safety (ICADTS)

Alcobaça, Portugal

We invite you to a worldwide meeting at a conference to share knowledge on driving under the influence - towards safer roads, healthier communities, and a sustainable future.

The 24th International Conference on Alcohol, Drugs and Traffic Safety (ICADTS), a tri-annual conference, is not just an event but a major international stage for exchanging research and policy developments between experts in the field. The conference provides high-quality contributions on various topics, making it a significant event in road safety.

The International Conference on Alcohol, Drugs and Road Safety (ICADTS) brings together world experts from a multidisciplinary perspective in key areas. This world conference will discuss the contribution of multiple interventions associated with research in the fields of safety, public health, traffic and transport psychology, law, medicine, economics, law enforcement, public policy, training and education, pharmacology, toxicology, forensic science, intervention, and rehabilitation related to driving under the influence.

We have chosen Alcobaça to share experiences and knowledge worldwide.

Alcobaça is located in the Central Portugal region, specifically in the Oeste (West) district. It’s known for its rich history, beautiful landscapes, and impressive architecture.

Alcobaça was recognised in 2019 by UNESCO as a member of the Cities of Learning Network. Located in the Oeste region (one hour from Lisbon), in the historical province of Estremadura, this city grew along the valleys of Alcoa and Baça, from which it derives its name.

With a magnificent location between the mountains and the Atlantic coast, the soul of the city of Alcobaça is deeply defined by the monumentality of the brilliant Alcobaça Monastery, a masterpiece of Cistercian architecture. A World Heritage Site since 1989, the Monastery of Santa Maria de Alcobaça or Royal Abbey of Santa Maria, founded in 1153, is one of the largest and best-preserved abbey complexes of the Cistercian Order in all of Europe. The Monastery is an integral part of Portugal’s cultural heritage, and is a remarkable example of Cistercian architecture founded by Saint Bernard of Clairvaux. It is visited annually by thousands of tourists.

Alcobaça is known worldwide for its beauty, heritage, wealth, and natural, cultural, and gastronomic aspects. A perfect connection between history and cultural richness, hand in hand with disarming hospitality. An incurable romantic designated as the Land of Passion, its magnificent monastery houses the tombs of D. Pedro and Inês de Castro, the most impacting love story that marked the History of Portugal. Welcome Message

Dear distinguished guests, colleagues, and fellow advocates,
Welcome to the T2025 Conference—an essential gathering where we confront critical challenges at the intersection of alcohol, drugs, traffic safety, and sustainability. Our mission is clear: to create a safer, more sustainable world for all.

T2025 stands at the forefront of progress. But this future remains years away. As advanced vehicle technology and autonomous systems become a reality, we find hope—but action is imperative.

We remain steadfast in our commitment to Toward Zero Traffic Fatalities by 2050.
T2025 builds upon the legacy of T2022 conferences in Rotterdam. The insights from that gathering guide our path forward. We learn from successful interventions, evidence-based policies, and global collaborations.

As we convene in Alcobaça, Portugal, history surrounds us. Alcobaça’s majestic monastery reminds us that progress is rooted in tradition. Here, where the past meets the present, we forge a path toward sustainable mobility.

The International Council on Alcohol, Drugs & Traffic Safety (ICADTS) is our guiding light. As an independent nonprofit body, ICADTS unites experts from diverse fields—public health, law, medicine, economics, and more.

Together, we will evaluate countermeasures, implement data-driven laws, and advocate for effective enforcement strategies. Our collective knowledge empowers us to tailor solutions to each country’s unique context.

Let us reaffirm our shared commitment. Together, we can build a world where mobility thrives without the shadow of alcohol, drugs, or impaired driving. We will evaluate countermeasures, discuss the implementation of data-driven laws, and advocate for effective enforcement strategies.

Our collective dedication to this cause makes this conference and our mission powerful.
We are deeply grateful for your participation and invite you to join us in making T2025 a successful, fruitful, and unforgettable conference.

Your presence and contributions are what make this conference truly impactful.
Warm Regards,

Flavio Pechansky
