Dr Annette Akgür, MD, PhD

She received her medical degree in 1988 from Ankara University School of Medicine and completed her medical pharmacology and forensic toxicology residency.

As a founder of the Institute on Drug Abuse, Toxicology and Pharmaceutical Sciences, she is a professor at the Institute on Addiction Toxicology Department. As a director of the toxicology laboratory, she works routinely on drug testing for drug abuse in the probation system, clinical services and workplaces. She cooperated with the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Ministry of Health within the scope of forensic toxicology, and she served on scientific committees in the relevant institutions of these ministries.

She is the founder and president of the Society of Forensic and Clinical Toxicology in Türkiye and a board member of the Turkish Pharmacology Society, Clinical Toxicology Group.

She has been an active and contributing member of The International Association of Forensic Toxicologists-TIAFT since 1999 and is a regional representative for Türkiye. Dr Akgür is a European Workplace Drug Test Society EWDTS board member, the International Association of Medical Review Officers IAMRO, and The International Forum of Drug and Alcohol Testing IFDAT/SAPAA.

She works actively in these national and international scientific organisations, especially on forensic toxicology applications and regulations for the prevention of drug abuse and addiction. She takes an active role in initiating practices on drug testing in traffic (airlines, road, sea), training experts on this subject and generating guidelines. She has reviewed many papers, book chapters, projects, lectures, and presentations about forensic toxicology and antidrug efforts.
